One sponsored TikTok video passed 400,000 views, yet analytics show 41 wallet connections and no sign those users returned. Was the problem the creator, the message, the landing page, or the channel?

The audience is real but uneven. According to Pew Research Center’s “Americans’ Social Media Use 2025,” published in November 2025 from a survey run between February and June 2025, 37% of US adults use TikTok, and among adults under 30 the figure is 63%. Crypto ownership is far narrower: the FCA’s Cryptoassets consumer research 2025, with fieldwork in August and September 2025, found that 8% of UK adults owned cryptoassets, although 91% had heard of them.

Crypto TikTok influencer marketing means paying or otherwise rewarding TikTok creators to feature a crypto or Web3 product in their videos, within TikTok’s branded content rules and the advertising laws of each target market. This guide helps you decide whether your project is eligible, which creators to shortlist, how to run a pilot, and how to judge results.

Key Takeaways

Check eligibility before tactics: TikTok applies different rules to organic posts, paid creator partnerships, ads and Spark Ads, and crypto permissions vary by product and country.

Choose creators on audience location, typical recent performance, comment quality and disclosure history. Follower count tells you little on its own.

Run a small, disclosed pilot judged on completed onboarding and cost per activated user. A tracked conversion is a signal; it does not prove the video caused the signup.

Can your crypto project run TikTok creator campaigns at all?

The answer depends on what you sell and where your users live. TikTok also treats four activities differently, and permission for one does not carry over to another.

Organic educational posts are unpaid and follow TikTok’s Community Guidelines. Any payment, gift, commission or ambassador deal turns a post into branded content.

Paid creator partnerships fall under TikTok’s Branded Content Policy, which covers posts promoting a brand “in exchange for payment or any other incentive.” Creators must switch on the commercial content disclosure toggle.

Ads bought in TikTok Ads Manager follow TikTok’s Advertising Policies, including the Financial Services policy.

Spark Ads turn a creator’s existing post into an ad, so ad policies apply to it. A video accepted as branded content may still be ineligible for boosting.

What TikTok’s current policies say

TikTok’s updated Branded Content Policy, published on 4 August 2026 and effective from 31 August 2026, lists financial services, including investment services, as a restricted industry. Brands need explicit permission from TikTok and must partner with creators through TikTok One. In the US and UK, such content is limited to adults in the market where it was posted. It is not allowed in markets including Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland and Portugal. The policy text does not name cryptocurrency, so confirm with TikTok how your product is classified.

TikTok’s Financial Services ad policy, last updated September 2026, varies by market. In the US and Canada, crypto ads may be allowed for licensed advertisers targeting adults, while initial coin offerings are listed as not allowed. In the UK, ads for crypto exchanges, advisory services and custodial wallets may be allowed with local licensing, TikTok’s permission and 18+ targeting, but ads for virtual currencies such as Bitcoin, and for non-custodial wallets, are not. TikTok has been blocked in India since June 2020. We checked these policies on 1 October 2026; recheck before signing anything.

The laws that apply on top of platform rules

Platform approval is not legal clearance. In the US, the FTC’s Endorsement Guides require clear disclosure of material connections, and if a token could be a security, Section 17(b) of the Securities Act requires paid promoters to disclose their compensation. In the UK, cryptoasset promotions have been inside the financial promotion regime since 8 October 2023, and FCA guidance FG24/1 (March 2024) expects firms to take responsibility for influencers promoting them. In the EU, MiCA requires marketing communications to be identifiable, fair, clear, not misleading and consistent with the white paper.

Before you commission any content, confirm:

TikTok’s classification of your product, in writing, for each market.

Any licence, registration or approval your promotions need.

Required risk warnings and disclosures, and where they appear.

Whether the same video can later run as a Spark Ad.

Creator partnerships are not a workaround for advertising restrictions. If you cannot advertise in a market, treat creator promotion there with the same caution.

When TikTok fits your goal

TikTok performs differently at each funnel stage, so name the stage you are paying for.

Awareness is TikTok’s clearest strength, because the interest-based feed reaches people who follow no crypto accounts.

Product education works when the product has one concept a short demonstration can explain.

Qualified traffic is possible if the landing page delivers what the video promised.

Onboarding is harder. KYC checks and wallet setup add friction a short video cannot remove.

Retention usually belongs to email and in-app messaging.

If you sell developer infrastructure or target experienced DeFi users who research on X and Telegram, another channel will probably suit you better.

37%

of US adults say they use TikTok

Pew Research Center, Americans’ Social Media Use 2025 (survey February to June 2025)

55.7%

of US adults were within TikTok’s reported ad reach at the end of 2025

DataReportal, Digital 2026: United States, based on TikTok’s ad planning data. Neither figure is crypto-specific, and the third is UK-only. Together they suggest a large general audience containing a much smaller pool of likely crypto users.

How to vet crypto TikTok creators before you sign

Follower count measures audience size and says nothing about fit. Move each creator from long list to signed partnership through checks that get stricter at each step.

Audience location

Request recent analytics showing country and age split. Restricted branded content stays in the market where it is posted, so the audience should be mostly adult and located where your product is legally available.

Typical performance across recent posts

Check median views across the last 15 to 20 posts. One viral outlier can hide a channel that usually reaches far fewer people. Compare sponsored and organic posts to see whether the audience drops off when a brand appears.

Comment quality

Real interest shows up as specific questions about fees or wallet security. Repeated generic praise is a warning sign, and so are follower jumps with no viral post to explain them.

Sponsored history

Review at least six months of posts. Note which projects the creator promoted and whether each post carried the disclosure label. A creator who skipped disclosures before is a compliance risk now.

Product understanding

Hold a short discovery call and ask the creator to explain your product back to you. Then check past videos for return promises or price predictions, since those habits tend to follow a creator into your campaign.

Which type of creator suits which objective?

Smaller creators do not always outperform larger ones, and the reverse is also true. Match the creator type to the job, then ask for evidence.

Creator type

Suitable objectives

Strengths

Limitations

Evidence to request

Specialist crypto educators

Product education and qualified traffic

Audience already understands wallets and exchanges; can explain mechanics accurately

Smaller reach; audience may be saturated with sponsored crypto content

Audience country split and disclosure record

Broad personal finance creators

Awareness among crypto-curious adults, beginner education

Trusted on money topics; reaches people outside crypto circles

May lack technical depth; often more cautious about crypto risk

Age split and comment samples on finance posts

Large general-interest creators

Launch awareness, brand recall

Large reach in a short window

Weak audience fit; higher risk of unsupported claims and backlash

Median views on sponsored posts and adult share

Many pilots pair specialist educators with one broader creator. Assume four creators each produce two videos at $1,500 per video: 4 × 2 × $1,500 = $12,000. Add usage rights for four videos at an assumed $400 each ($1,600), paid amplification of $4,000 if eligible, production support of $2,000, and measurement setup of $1,000. The total is $12,000 + $1,600 + $4,000 + $2,000 + $1,000 = $20,600. Without amplification, the total is $16,600.

Measuring results that connect to the business

Views measure distribution. They cannot tell you whether the right people arrived and stayed, so report on the steps between exposure and value.

A qualified visit is a session from an eligible market that passes an engagement threshold you define.

Completed onboarding means a finished signup, including KYC or wallet setup where your product requires it.

An activated user completes a first meaningful action, such as a deposit or swap, within a set window.

Cost per activated user = total campaign cost ÷ activated users attributed to the campaign. The numerator includes fees, usage rights, production, amplification and measurement. The denominator counts users meeting your activation definition within your chosen window.

Attributed revenue divided by spend gives a return-on-spend ratio. It says nothing about profit. Profit-based ROI is (attributed gross profit minus total campaign cost) divided by total campaign cost.

Attribution is incomplete. Viewers often search for the brand days later on another device, so links undercount, while leaked codes can overcount. A tracked conversion also does not prove the video caused it. To estimate incremental impact, compare against a baseline period, hold out a comparable market where possible, watch branded search, and ask new users how they found you.

Where crypto TikTok campaigns usually go wrong

Most weak pilots trace back to one of five problems. Each has a specific fix.

Audience mismatch

Views from the wrong country or age group cannot convert. Make audience location and adult share pass/fail checks.

Vague briefs

“Talk about our app” yields generic videos. Give each creator a single message and a single call to action.

Unsupported claims

Return promises and “safe” language create regulatory risk. Supply approved claims in writing and keep a record of every draft you sign off.

Weak landing pages

A staking explainer that links to a generic homepage loses interest. Build a short page per message that repeats the video’s point and shows the next step.

Judging results by views alone

High views with low activation usually mean the hook worked and the offer did not. Renew creators based on onboarding and cost per activated user.

Should you run a crypto TikTok creator campaign? A quick decision test

Proceed with a pilot if you can answer yes to each of these:

TikTok has confirmed your product category is eligible in every target market.

You have legal sign-off on disclosures and risk warnings for each market.

Your objective goes beyond views, with a defined activation event.

Your landing page and onboarding work for cold mobile visitors.

You can measure cost per activated user by creator.

If any answer is no, fix that gap first or spend the budget elsewhere.

Blockchain App Factory runs influencer and KOL campaigns for crypto and Web3 teams. The work includes creator vetting, campaign planning, compliance review and performance tracking. For TikTok, that work starts with eligibility checks and a pilot sized to test whether the channel produces activated users at a cost your model supports. If TikTok is not the right fit, the same process helps show where your budget is likely to do more.

Ready to plan a TikTok creator pilot for your project?

Yes, plan my pilot

Frequently asked questions

Is crypto advertising allowed on TikTok?

It depends on the product and market. TikTok’s Financial Services ad policy allows some crypto ads in markets such as the US and UK for licensed advertisers targeting adults, with extra permission steps in the UK. Many markets prohibit them, and some products, such as ICOs, are excluded. Confirm with TikTok before planning spend.

Do crypto TikTok influencers have to disclose sponsored posts?

Yes. TikTok requires creators to switch on the commercial content disclosure toggle for any paid or incentivised post, including gifts and affiliate codes. Laws add their own duties: US creators must disclose material connections under FTC guidance, and UK and EU promotions may also need specific risk warnings.

How much should a first crypto TikTok pilot cost?

There is no reliable standard rate. Build the budget from deliverables: creator fees, production, revisions, usage rights, any permitted amplification, and measurement. Size the pilot so it can produce enough activated users to compare creators, and so that losing the full amount would not affect your runway.

Can we boost a creator’s crypto video with Spark Ads?

Only if the ad itself is eligible. Spark Ads run as ads, so TikTok’s advertising policies apply, including the licensing and age-targeting rules for financial services. A post allowed as branded content may still be rejected as an ad. Secure usage rights in the creator contract before assuming you can amplify.

How long does it take to judge a TikTok creator campaign?

Allow roughly eight to ten weeks for a first pilot, including eligibility checks and vetting. Early views appear within days, but activation and short-term retention need several weeks to show. Judge each creator on cost per activated user and compare the result with your other acquisition channels.

Picture a founder reviewing last month’s creator spend.
